Instructor Training
Every Swim Otter Instructor is required to undergo 200+ hours of in-water training. Other requirements include the study of human anatomy, child behavior, development and psychology. Our instructors also receive continuing education at national and international aquatic conferences through The United States Swim School Association (USSSA). Our instructors are required to have and keep current, Infant/Child CPR Certification and First Aid Training by the American Red Cross. We hire instructors who are stable and have had a minimum of 3-5 years experience working with young children.
Meet Ethan Sieben -WSS/Stroke Instructor
Ethan is our stroke development guru. He has a way with children of all ages...they listen to his deep voice and enjoy working with him. Ethan makes learning to swim fun! Ethan believes that it is extremely important to learn water safety & survival skills as a child. "So many programs around the community do not teach water safety at all. Many swim schools say they teach 6 months and up, but they don't do what we do!" says Ethan. Ethan has 5 years

experience teaching swim lessons to children, ages 2 years up to 10 years.
Meet Kathy Nowak, Aquatic Director
Eight years ago, Kathy developed the Swim Otters Curriculum. Understanding that children learn best when lessons are gentle, she developed the gentle and nurturing approach in order to teach young children the fundamentals of safe swimming. She believes that learning to swim should be an empowerment with knowledge and should be exciting and fun! Not scary!
Kathy has undergone rigorous and intensive training to teach survival swim lessons. She is a Master Instructor and graduate of Infant Aquatics of Colorado. Kathy has taught thousands of students in these life saving techniques. Being a member of the NDPA (National Drowning Prevention Alliance), she continues to forge ahead in new research & development in preventing pediatric drowning. Being passionate and committed to preventing pediatric drowning in her community, Kathy recently founded the Swim Safe Program in our surrounding Denver, Colorado communities.
